The house felt too quiet after Dad left for his conference. I was twenty-three, home for the summer between college semesters, and Mom had just turned forty-five. She moved through the kitchen in a thin cotton robe that clung to her curves when she reached for a glass. I watched her pour wine, the way her fingers trembled slightly around the stem. Wed always been close, but lately the air between us had thickened with something unspoken.

We talked late into the night. She sat on the couch beside me, legs tucked under her, robe slipping open at the thigh. The conversation drifted from my classes to her loneliness, then to the way she still felt desirable. Her voice dropped when she admitted she hadnt been touched in months. I confessed I hadnt either, not really, not the way I wanted. Her eyes met mine and held there. Neither of us looked away.
She reached out and brushed a strand of hair from my forehead. The touch lingered. Her fingers trailed down my cheek, then lower, resting on my chest. My heart pounded under her palm. We shouldnt, she whispered, but she didnt pull back. I covered her hand with mine and felt the heat of her skin. The slow-burn tension that had built over weeks of lingering glances and accidental brushes now sat heavy between us.
Mom leaned in first. Her lips brushed mine, tentative, testing. When I kissed her back, she sighed into my mouth and opened for me. The kiss deepened, tongues sliding, her body shifting closer until she was half in my lap. My hands found her waist, then slid up to cup her breasts through the thin robe. Her nipples hardened under my thumbs. She moaned softly and pressed into my touch.
We moved to her bedroom without speaking. She let the robe fall. I undressed while she watched, her eyes dark with hunger and hesitation. When I stepped close, she reached down and wrapped her fingers around me, stroking slowly, learning the feel of her son in her hand. I touched her in return, sliding my fingers between her thighs, finding her already slick and warm. She trembled as I explored her, circling, pressing, drawing soft sounds from her throat.
She lay back on the bed and pulled me over her. The moment I entered her was careful, almost reverent. We both paused, breathing hard, eyes locked. Then she lifted her hips and took me deeper. We moved together in a rhythm that built gradually, each thrust carrying the weight of years of closeness turned physical. Her legs wrapped around me. Her nails dug into my back. She whispered my name like a secret.
Afterward we stayed tangled, sweat cooling on our skin. She stroked my hair and told me she had thought about this for months. I admitted the same. The guilt was there, but so was the relief of finally crossing the line we had both circled. We talked quietly until dawn, hands still exploring, learning each other in ways we never had before. By morning the first time had already become the start of something neither of us wanted to stop.
